Bannister Miles joins World Athletics Kids' Day

Introducing the World Mile Challenge. In honour of the 70th anniversary of Roger Bannister breaking the 4-minute mile we are aiming to 'Run the World' one mile at a time.  Encouraging children, young people, and families across the globe to run, jog or walk a mile (or more).

Join the global challenge and let’s see just how many miles we can collectively run, jog, or walk this Kids' Athletics Day.

Kids’ Athletics Day (7 May) is an annual day dedicated to celebrating children and young people across the globe participating in athletics and being active.

Waves of runners will depart from St Aldate’s and progress down Oxford’s High Street before finishing on Iffley Road.

The route will take participants past six Oxford University colleges (Lincoln, Brasenose, All Souls, Queens, University, and Magdalen), as well as some of Oxford's architectural gems like the University Church and the Botanical Gardens. Runners will then proceed to Magdalen Bridge, spanning the Cherwell River, before culminating their run along Iffley Road. To the right, they'll have a captivating view of the Iffley Road Track, now known as the Sir Roger Bannister Track, where the historic record-breaking moment occurred.

At the finish, runners collect their finishers’ medal on the Iffley Road Track and they'll have the opportunity to explore the track and enjoy the Mile Fair.
